There was a toll for crossing the Saint Bénézet Bridge. This was not enough however as it was constantly costing them money each time the Rhone flooded and trees crashed into the pillars. For this reason they eventually decided to no longer repair it and kept only some of the arches as it is today, stopping at the small chapel mid stream. With all that knowledge we then set out over the drawbridge and onto the bridge d'Avignon.
